POMONA – A Glendora man was convicted by a jury today of
the first-degree murders two years ago of his mother and her
companion at the couple’s home in Glendora.
The Pomona Superior Court jury also determined after a day and a
half of deliberation that the special circumstances including
multiple murders were true. The District Attorney’s office opted not
to seek the death penalty for 36-year-old Robert Lee Lewis, so he
faces a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of
parole.
The defendant’s mother, Pamela Dumais, 51, and her companion,
Rodney Courtright, 52, were found shot to death in October 2006 at
the home they shared in the 900 block of Ivy Street in Glendora.
Police went to the couple’s home in the quiet residential
neighborhood after co-workers called to say that Dumais had not come
to work. They found the bodies. Both victims were shot to death. The
jury found that Lewis used a handgun to commit the crimes.
Lewis was arrested at the home and has remained in custody since
then.
Deputy District Attorney Samer Hathout, who prosecuted the case,
said the defendant is scheduled to be sentenced by trial Judge
George Genesta on Aug. 21.
